The school board's energy efficiency projects were divided into phases. A first phase
was completed in 2007-2008 and a second phase is scheduled for 2009-2010.

Guaranteed results
The
energy-saving projects are a partnership with Ecosystem, a Quebec-based
engineering company that specializes exclusively in energy efficiency
projects. The partnership is based on mutual goals; Ecosystem
guarantees the financial savings and hence shares the monetary savings
goal with the school board. Performance criteria also resource savings,
greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction, and maintenance of comfort
levels for the occupants.
The investment required to achieve
these savings will be paid for by the guaranteed annual savings
resulting from the project. Once the project is entirely paid
for, the savings will allow the school board to reinvest in other
fields such as the academic tools or programs.

Along
with saving money, this project will greatly benefit the
environment. Phase 1 is expected to reduce the school
board's annual GHG emissions by 200 Tons, which is the
equivalent GHG released by 61 family cars driving 15 000 km/year.
Ecosystem performs the following tasks:
- Visit and study the energy consumption of the schools;
- Design the measures with the best payback;
- Supervise the construction work of each measure in the school;
- Fill in all the paperwork for the grants made available by the government and public utilities;
- Train operators in new operation procedures;
- Create awareness of energy efficiency among the school board and community (as with these web pages);
- Follow up and guarantee the energy and financial savings for the next 10 years.
